daily walking

Daily walking may be a chore to some people, but for those of us who love to walk, it is a huge calorie burner. I’m going to give you my walking stats for this week.

In four 1+ hour walks, I’ve burned over 3000 calories. There are lots more benefits to walking than just calorie burning, but this post is going to focus on the calorie burn.

Monday 9th March 2020

The first walk of what I hope to further the recovery of my mental illness. I did a familiar walk that I knew would work out my butt too. Heart rate pumped to 181 during the uphill walk.

Tuesday 10th March 2020

This was the same walk to Heywood and the Crimble hill, but I had better walking shoes on for the muddy conditions (in parts).

After this walk, my mental health is starting to improve, as is my appetite and sleep.

I’m burning a huge number of calories going on a lovely walk in nature, and I’m going to keep it up.

Thursday 12 March 2020

This walk to Heywood and the Crimble hill took me slightly longer, as I took the scenic route near Matthew Moss High School. I wore only my trainers (sooo comfy), and the walk was quite muddy in parts, so I’ll know to wear my walking boots for next time. It was also very windy, so a nice bit of resistance during the walk. This route added about 20 minutes to my normal route, but burned a nice 854 calories.

Friday 13th March 2020

What a beautiful day to go walking.

Okay, so this daily walk looks longer than the others, because I forgot to end my workout when I got home, so I reality the walk was around 1 hour 20 minutes, so on average the calorie burn would be about 780.

To Summarise

In total, I’ve burned over 3000 calories from four 1+ hour walks, and it’s been thoroughly enjoyable. My appetite is better and I’m eating healthier, I’m sleeping better, and I’m feeling more hopeful. I hope to keep up daily walking to improve my mental health. Who needs the gym when daily walking is a huge calorie burner.
