I first purchased the Noco Boost Plus Jump Starter Power Pack in February 2024 after I had a flat battery after not closing the car boot properly, but at that time I had a start up motor issue caused by Kia, and they charged my battery for free.
So I’ve not had use of the Noco Boost Plus for almost eighteen months, which I charged up immediately, and the only thing that I’ve lost is the official charger. However, I have tons of those similar USB chargers around.
Does the Noco Boost Plus work?
I tried it this morning after I discovered a flat battery on my Kia Picanto. I had no start up lights, no clicking, no nothing. The central locking would not even lock with the key, so I could only only lock my driver’s side with the key, but all the other doors remained open.
I have lost its manual, so I tried guessing on how it worked. First I attached the negative lead, then the positive lead and turned it on. It was only half charged. A brief light came on on the dashboard. I emailed Noco asking them why it wasn’t working.
I watched some videos of the Noco Boost Plus and discovered that I had done things wrong. I needed to charge it up fully, so I did that. I took about 30 minutes with a non-original USB charger. I then discovered about the manual override button if the lights do not flash upon adding the jump leads when the button is turned on. And of course, adding the positive lead, then the negative one.
Yee haw I used the Manual Override Button on the Noco Boost Plus
- I added the positive jump lead, then the negative lead.
- I turned it on. No flashing lights.
- I pressed the red (?) manual override button for a few seconds, and the lights began to flash.
- I turned the car engine, and it came on. Yee haw.
- I went for an hour run to charge up the battery.
Final Word on the Noco Power Pack
When I saw that my battery was flat this morning, all sorts of negative things went through my head. It’s going to cost hundreds to get it to a garage. Should I just buy another car. FFS. Then I wondered if the Noco Boost Plus would work. I wish I had recorded myself using the booster pack, but I was so stressed and it was pissing down with rain, etc, but I’m so glad I bought it as it’s a wonderful investment.
